1215 Welch Road Research Building

Main content start

The 1215 Welch Road Research Building represents the next step towards replacing several existing outdated SoM facilities with a new, state-of-the-art building creating a center for human immune-biology research that will ensure the school’s preeminence in the medical research community.

The building will have access to other research facilities via a new connection to the existing tunnel system. The building’s character will be influenced by SoM’s architectural “kit-of-parts” seen on other SoM buildings. Interior spaces will include flexible lab modules, offices, and conference rooms. The ground floor on the north edge will house a cafe and a large classroom. Several furnished gathering spaces will be incorporated in an adjacent outdoor plaza while the west and south edges will contain more private and reclusive areas. The project will allow for the extension of Discovery Walk, the primary pedestrian and bike corridor for SoM, from Campus Drive to Welch Road enabling the building to serve as a gateway to SoM from the west.
